The old CRT had to go. It may have worked, but I didn't have anything appropriate to drive it with (pun intended) and I had no intention of spending money. Plus I wanted the system up and running in one weekend.
I have to admit the old CRT had a certain charm to it. Just the size, and being mounted sideways was sweet. The prospect of putting in a "modern" LCD which would be compatible with a PC was just too attractive. This turned out, ironically, to be untrue as I am now converting the system to a Raspberry Pi which features HDMI out and won't connect (easily) to the VGA on the LCD. Sigh.
Here's the donar LCD purchased for I believe $14.99 at the local Restore or Thrift Store. It wasn't bought specifically for this project, and no longer fit on my desk so I had it spare. I decided to mount it in a new plywood frame that would fit nicely in the cab
It actually turned out fantastic as the monitor is perfectly sized for the cab.
